Vikki Kestell
VERY few authors can excel in a single genre (Science Fiction, Mystery, Espionage, etc.). Vikki is a prolific author who has authored multiple series in multiple genres!
I was initially drawn to what I expected was a purely science fiction series, Nanostealth. Yes, it was SciFi. But so much more! Well, I saw some of the other series she’d written, in genres I’m not normally interested in. Wow! So, check these (and others) out.

- LAYNIE PORTLAND, SPY RISING, Laynie Portland series, The Prequel
- STEALTH GENESIS, Nanostealth series, A Nanostealth Prequel
1. Current series, in progress: The Tahoe Mysteries
This is a genre I’m typically NOT interested in. But two other completely different genres I read by this author were so good (see reviews below) that I just had to try.
Wow!
You might think of this as a who-done-it. But? Nobody did it. Yet. But someone is trying to. Who? Will it be her? Nope. Her? Maybe. Him? A whole team of assassins? Or is it all in her head? Wait a minute. Why is Miss Finch even hiding? Just who IS she? Hmm.
Prequel: Murder by Accident
Book One: Number 1 With a Bullet
I’m hooked. And Book Two, Be Quick or Be Dead, is EVEN BETTER! Can’t wait for Book Three in 2026…things are really heating up (in more ways than you’d think) around Lake Tahoe!
2. Nanostealth series
I recently watched the James Bond movie, “No Time to Die.” The evil weapon in this movie? Heracles, a DNA-based bioweapon containing nanobots that could target specific people, nationalities, even families.
Child’s play!
Without giving away too much?
What if nanorobots were far more than mechanical devices. What if, let’s say, Artificial Intelligence doesn’t come in the midst of massive supercomputers, but rather in nanoscopic clouds that could symbiotically survive in… a human being? What if this cloud could provide superhuman capabilities to its host? What if world-wide evil forces, known and unknown, understood that this technology could result in world domination? Last question: What if God had a higher perspective and purpose?
Years before “No Time to Die” was released, author Vikki Kestell began an epic SciFi series written from a Christian perspective. The six-book series just concluded with release of #6 in June 2022.
How to best define the genre? Paramilitary? Political? Prophetic? Romantic? Thriller? All of the above, and far more!
For your part, carefully note each character throughout the entire series. You will meet them again! Watch for twist, turns, collisions… Oh, never mind watching. Just keep your seat belt securely fastened!
Enjoy!

3. Laynie Portland series
I wasn’t a fan of spy stories. Not until I started reading Vikki Kestell’s “Laynie Portland” series!
Couldn’t put them down.
I started with Vyper, the last in the series, because the cyberwarfare aspect intrigued me. I am SO glad I then tried the original “Spy Rising” novel. What a solid story! Had to binge-read the rest!
Vikki’s attention to detail, relatable characters, and realism “put you there.” You will KNOW these characters. Or, at least, think that you do; pay careful attention all the way through, as the character arcs don’t necessarily lead where you might expect.
Do yourself a favor. Read these. And another recommendation? Ensure that you are well-rested before you start!
4. Miscellaneous novels
I Can’t Hear You
It’s a who-done-it that’s SO much more; think of a psychological thriller! I Can’t Hear You is a completely different genre than her previous series, and—just maybe—her best yet!
Yes, I hope it WILL become a series; I’d like to know what becomes of Dr. Bill, whether Browning actually does get his act together, and especially whether Dr. Warner becomes a “regular” police consultant! Great story, with a terrific sensitivity to real-life challenges and God’s help for those who seek Him.
